Tennessee Voters Are Not Required To Declare A Party When They Register To Vote And The State Keeps An Open Primary System Where Voters Simply Choose Whichever Primary Ballot They Want To Vote On. This Effectively Allows Opposing Party Members To Vote To Select Nominees For Office For A Political Party They Are Not A Member Of. However, There Have Been Several Bills That Would Have Addressed These Problems But They Were All Killed Before Ever Reaching The Floor Of The Legislature For An Official Vote.
