Memphis-Shelby County Schools Assistant Principal Arrested On Rape Charges

The Tennessee Conservative Staff –

A Memphis-Shelby County Schools assistant principal was escorted from a local middle school on Tuesday and charged with aggravated rape.

According to court records, 44-year-old Marcus Latrell Matthews was arrested at White Station Middle School. Matthews is listed on the school’s webpage as the assistant principal for 7th grade. 

Documents state that the alleged incident possibly occurred in May 2024. Additional details have not been made available, but investigators have said the incident involved an adult and that no minors were involved.

Matthews is currently being held in the Shelby County jail on a $100,000 bond.

MSCS released the following statement to Fox13 News:

“Memphis-Shelby County Schools is aware that Shelby County Sheriff’s Office deputies visited White Station Middle School on Monday to meet with a school staff member who was escorted from the building and later placed under arrest. The Sheriff’s Department has not released details of the charges leading to the arrest, but this incident does not appear to be related to immigration enforcement. The District has placed the staff member on investigative leave until more information becomes available. The safety of students and staff remains our top priority.”
