Greg Hohman is making quite the splash in Wilson County for not only winning a contentious school board race, but for filing an ethics complaint against a favorite teacher at Green Hill High School (GHHS).
While many outlets are painting the complaint as politically vindictive and arbitrary, Greg’s willingness to act as a concerned parent far predates his filing of the ethics complaint containing a request for the teacher’s termination. The Tennessee Conservative obtained an exclusive interview with Greg Hohman regarding the circumstances leading to the complaint and was able to review relevant documents and materials.
In February of 2023, the Hohmans met with their son’s teacher for a standard parent-teacher conference.
Based on supposed former instances where one-sided and misleading portions of conversations or information wound up becoming public, the Hohmans were advised by other parents to record or document any meetings with Green Hill staff. “We recorded the meeting to protect ourselves,” Greg stated of the February conference.
For almost 15 months, no mention or report of the conference was made publicly or to the Hohmans until Greg was amid a heated school board race.
In May of 2024, Janie Johnson, a former GHHS Teacher of the Year recipient, posted Facebook comments claiming that the night of the February parent teacher conferences she overheard Greg yelling at a teacher from several rooms down and felt threatened by his presence.
However, Greg kept the audio recording of the conference and disputed her claim.
Due to the personal nature of the recording and FERPA regulations, the audio cannot be shared publicly. However, The Tennessee Conservative has heard the audio and can confirm that the conversation between the Hohmans and their child’s teacher was respectful and at no time during the conference did Hohman or his wife raise their voice.
According to Greg, he has never met or corresponded with Janie Johnson, nor have his children been her students.
An important distinction to note is that Greg has not filed this complaint as a school board member.
Though he won the August 1st election and was sworn in on August 19th, Hohman is not officially considered a board member until September 1st. He filed the ethics complaint as a private citizen and parent on July 29th, willing to risk losing the election in pursuit of the truth in exposing Johnson’s falsehood.
The ethics committee tasked with reviewing the complaint was composed of three members of the school board including Carrie Pfieffer, Hohman’s opponent in the school board race.
Greg expressed concern that Pfieffer’s oversight of the matter would present a conflict of interest as she was not only his political opponent but is a close friend of Janie Johnson who made t-shirts for and donated to Pfieffer’s campaign.
Contrary to the popular narrative, the complaint has not been dropped. The committee decided to defer the issue to Human Resources for further investigation after a nine-minute meeting where Greg was not provided with the opportunity to present his prepared materials. As of this writing, there is no indication when or how HR will attend to the matter.
