An Arizona man was apprehended at the Nashville airport last week after flying in with over 50 pounds of fentanyl.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Tennessee, 23-year-old Yusef Ibn Abdul Jabbar Hunter of Phoenix landed at Nashville International Airport (BNA) on Thursday, September 5.

Agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration in Nashville had been tipped off about Hunter’s last-minute travel arrangements and had reason to believe that his checked luggage might contain illegal drugs.

A drug detection dog reportedly alerted agents to Hunter’s luggage after the plane landed. Hunter consented to a search, and agents discovered hundreds of blue pills – weighing in at more than 50 pounds – marked with “M30,” designed to resemble prescription Oxycodone.

However, a field test confirmed that the pills contained fentanyl.

“This seizure is a testament to the continued vigilance of the DEA and local law enforcement and the great work they are doing every day to protect our communities,” said United States Attorney Henry Leventis in a news release. “However, it is also a frightening reminder of the prevalence of counterfeit pills that can be laced with fentanyl or other dangerous drugs and of the need for people to purchase prescription drugs from licensed vendors to ensure their safety.”

Hunter has been charged with possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute. He faces a mandatory sentence of a minimum of 10 years and maximum or life in federal prison if he is convicted.

  1. This heinous criminal should certainly receive the maximum penalty under the law! However, that is far too little! Due to the fact that the poisonous drug was intentionally marked as a different drug it was a conspiracy to commit mass murder. People who took this drug , as a familiar drug to them, were extremely likely to overdose and die. Conspiracy to commit murder and especially mass murder is certainly a separate crime to be charged to this terrorist! Terrorism may use many devices to kill and destroy. Terrorist charges also should be forth coming from our governmental to be lodged against this scumbag. This was not just a load of pills or pot, it was a load of disguised doses of highly toxic poison, even in very small doses! No regards to human life, except, they knew the potential for death! The death penalty is appropriate the crime but life without parole is a minimum that society should demand from this assassin.
