A Knoxville couple has been charged with maintaining a drug residence near a local school.

According to court records, Lauren Michelle Adams and Richard Lavell Adams are facing charges after officers with the Knox County Sheriff’s Department found what they believed to be fentanyl, along with other items that are “consistent with fentanyl processing” in the couple’s home on Boyds Bridge Pike.

The home, which is within 1000 feet of Sarah Moore Green Elementary School, was searched by the KCSO Swat Team and the Narcotics Unit last Wednesday. Investigators found 14 grams of what appeared to be psilocybin mushrooms, one gram of fentanyl, and several guns.

They also found items that are frequently used in the production of fentanyl: culinary blends, digital scales, drug cutting materials, sandwich bags, and baggies with a powder residue in them. They also confiscated $34,000 as it was considered to be likely the proceeds of drug sales.

The court documents noted that “it is more probably than not Richard and Lauren use the resident to promote the sale and distribution of drugs.”

This couple was previously arrested at the residence in 2023 when police found more than 25 pounds of drugs in the home: 9.3 pounds of heroin and fentanyl, 2.5 pounds of meth, 14 pounds of marijuana. They also found drug producing supplies at that time, as well as numerous guns.

Three minor children were present in the home at the time of the 2023 arrest and were taken into custody by the Department of Children’s Services.
