According to a September 3rd report from the Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett, approximately 80,000 voters were purged from the Davidson County voter rolls between December 1st, 2024, and June 1st, 2025.

County election commissions across the state are responsible for adding newly registered voters, verifying registrations and eliminating or “purging” voters based on the criteria dictated by Tennessee Code:

According to state law, active voters may be purged upon request, written confirmation of a move outside the county, non-marital name change, death or felony conviction.

Election commissions are also responsible for purging inactive voters.

Inactive voters are defined as individuals who haven’t responded to a letter confirming their registration, have not updated their registration, and have not cast a vote over the span of two regular November elections.

These inactive voters made up the majority of those purged in Davidson County over the last six months, totaling 66,460.

13,710 active voters were also purged within in the last six months.

In total, 80,170 voters were purged from the system.

Davidson County’s total eligible voter count reportedly dropped in a major purge by election officials from approximately 530,000 to 460,000 between February 3rd and March 3rd of this year.

There are currently a total of 442,852 active voters and 18,134 inactive voters registered in Davidson County.

Only about 55% of these voters or 293,514, cast votes in the 2024 presidential election according to a report from the Nashville Scene.

The secretary of state’s report also notes that over the last six months:

  • 14,335 voters were purged in Hamilton County
  • 14,375 voters were purged in Knox County
  • 18,367 voters were purged in Rutherford County
  • 25,973 voters were purged in Shelby County
  • 14,115 voters were purged in Williamson County

More inactive voters were purged than active voters in each of these cases.

  1. ummm, shouldn’t that lead to some looking into current elected officials and if they might not actually be elected?
