A former coach in Cocke County has been charged with statutory rape, following an investigation by the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office.
26-year-old Francisco “Franny” Garcia was arrested on Monday and charged with six counts of rape of a 16-year-old victim.
Garcia was a former coach at Cocke County High School. The TSSAA website lists him as an assistant coach for the football team, as well as both the boys’ and girls’ wrestling teams.
The district has stated that his charges are not “related to any case involving the student during school hours or at school functions.” They also noted that Garcia was suspended without pay on October 30 and was officially terminated on December 4.
Garcia was booked on a $300,000 bond.
