Oakland, Tennessee Mayor, Son & Other Conspirators Arrested For Stealing Opponent’s Campaign Signs

The Mayor of Oakland, TN, along with his son and another young woman have been arrested and charged for criminal conspiracy to commit theft of property after several of his political opponent’s signs were vandalized and stolen, all of which was caught on surveillance video.

Mayor Adrian Wiggins, his son Thomas Wiggins, and Isabella Morino are accused of planning to steal and stealing numerous campaign signs on August 6, election day. Police were notified that dozens of “No Wiggins” signs, placed by the campaign of Chelsea Kivelle, Wiggins’ opponent for Fayette County Commission, were stolen from around a local polling place.

On August 12, investigators received a flash drive containing surveillance video showing two vehicles containing several people pulling up to the school, cutting the signs, and loading them into the back of their vehicles. 

One of those vehicles was later spotted at a McDonalds and officers pulled the car over for having window tint darker than the legal limit. The woman in the vehicle, presumably Isabella Morino, reportedly told officers Wiggins paid her to take the signs and told her to lie if caught, saying he had a “good lawyer” if they got into trouble.

Court records show Wiggins, son Thomas, and Moreno were charged with misdemeanor theft and vandalism, as three signs were allegedly destroyed while 25-30 others were stolen. Wiggins was also charged with criminal conspiracy to commit theft of property less than $1,000.

“Our elected officials, we expect to hold them to a higher order, when they disappoint us it’s a sad day for our democracy,” said one resident about the allegations.

Another said, “I can’t believe somebody would do that in that kind of a position, that’s just unnecessary. If that’s the way you’ve got to win an election or something like that, then you don’t need to be running.”

All three accused are out on $2,500 bond. Wiggins could not be reached by local media for comment.
