A guidance counselor at Northwest High School in Clarksville was arrested for simple possession on August 31 after drugs were found in the school bathroom two weeks before being found in the employee’s car.
Kristen Michelle Watson, 41, was arrested approximately two weeks after police were first brought to the school upon reports of drugs in a school bathroom.
According to Clarksville Now, which obtained a copy of the arrest warrant, on Aug. 13 a “white powder substance” was discovered in the restroom and field tested positive for cocaine. There was also video obtained from the school that showed Watson “entering and exiting the restroom prior to discovery.”
Then on Aug. 31, officers returned to Northwest to investigate “possible illegal drugs” on school grounds and encountered Watson who they said was exhibiting “mumbled and slurred speech, dilated pupils, and consistent drainage from her nose.”
Watson supposedly admitted that she had been using cocaine for about six months and “may have inadvertently brought cocaine onto school property in the past.” Officers then conducted a search of Watson’s car and found a plastic bag containing 5 grams of a white powder which field tested positive for cocaine.
She was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of Simple Possession/Casual Exchange, a Class A misdemeanor. Watson was booked at the Montgomery County Jail on a $2,500 bond.
A Clarksville-Montgomery County School Systems (CMCSS) spokesperson confirmed Watson had been employed by the district since 2020 and that she resigned on the day of her arrest. The district is referring any additional questions about the investigation to law enforcement and the District Attorney’s office.
“By resigning, she waived any rights to due process from CMCSS, and she is no longer employed by the district,” the spokesperson said. “CMCSS fully cooperates in law enforcement investigations and must protect the integrity of their investigations and the judicial process.”
Watson was arraigned in General Sessions Court on Sept. 17, and her next court appearance is a docket call scheduled for Nov. 19.
