Residents of a Williamson County neighborhood are in shock after receiving letters notifying them that their homeowner’s association was banning the use of security cameras on their townhouses.

According to the letter, the Bent Creek Townhomes HOA will fine residents who do not remove cameras in the next month. The letter states that their reasoning includes “maintaining consistent architectural standards” and “protecting the privacy of neighboring residents.”

One resident told WSMV that homeowners are responsible for maintaining their own entryways, which includes front doors and garage doors, while the HOA technically owns the outside of the homes. He also stated that many residents have cameras installed for safety.

“You don’t know who’s going to take a package off your front doorstep or take something else from your house. It’s just nice knowing that you have a face to a name if somebody comes to your door and tries to steal something,” the resident stated.

The letter states that homeowners will be allowed to continue to use doorbell cameras but they can only catch video of the owner’s home.

Additionally, they must “not damage the building’s exterior, alter the home’s appearance in a manner inconsistent with the community’s architectural standards, or interfere with common elements.”

Ghertner and Company, the group that manages the HOA, has not yet released a statement regarding the change.

Nolensville police recently went to Bent Creek residents to request footage from security cameras, ultimately leading them to the arrest of two individuals wanted for aggravated assault in a stolen vehicle.
