Austin Peay State University (APSU) in Clarksville fired a tenured professor after he made disparaging comments about the assassination of Charlie Kirk but has now shifted the employee to a suspension pending termination, claiming they had not followed due process.
Associate professor of acting Darren Michael was initially fired from APSU on Friday, Sept. 12 for a social media post the university stated was “insensitive, disrespectful, and interpreted by many as propagating justification for unlawful death”.
In the termination letter, APSU said the decision was made because the posts caused “significant reputational damage to the university,” but school administration later stated they had not followed due process at a Faculty Senate meeting on Sept. 18.
A university spokesperson confirmed that though Michael’s status has been reverted to a suspension, APSU is intending to follow through with the termination. “Professor Darren Michael has been placed on suspension. Austin Peay is initiating proceedings to terminate his tenure for adequate cause,” said APSU spokeswoman Ginna Holleman.
According to local sources, Michael had been with APSU for 18 years and is a published playwright and author. His is the latest in a string of firings and suspensions of university faculty members and government employees across the state as members of the public continue to demand accountability for those cheering and inciting acts of violence and murder.

People who are hired to “educate” in our schools on any level must honor those who love this country and God, Jesus. The Marxist satanic left has been given an open invite to teach on our tax dollars and use their influence to destroy this country from the inside out using gullible students who pay greatly to learn about their nation in earnest, not the leftist garbage teachers like this one spew. If you hate the Republic that the USA is, then get out of our schools and perhaps our nation. Leftists using our schools to further their globalist anti-God, anti-America hate agenda must be barred from teaching their personal whims to anyone.
Charlie Kirk scared the global elite that has infected our schools. They killed him for it. Those who hate this country and true efforts to being it back to what the founding fathers intended are TRAITORS. committing treason on our dime. It is going to be stopped no matter how hard they fight.
