With an evenly divided County GOP Executive Committee in Washington County, the filling of only one vacant seat would determine a governing majority.

That seat was filled Thursday evening by Young Republican Chair candidate Mason Mosier.

He defeated constitutional conservative Rachel Mehl.

Observers on the ground in Jonesborough at the voting location described the scene as “absolute chaos” noting that people were arriving from everywhere to vote. One voter reported that election organizers created some doubt as to who was in charge of the election process.

Some voters were observed arriving on a chartered bus and wearing Gold Spectrum THC shirts.

The Washington County GOP Chair explains in greater detail how the Young Republican Chair seat determined the balance of power in the CEC.

The Young Republicans election had no involvement by the Washington County Republican Party or the TNGOP as it fell under the auspices of the Young Republican organization.

The State Executive Committee of the Republican Party voted to change the state bylaws to only bonafide Republicans can have a vote on the CEC.  Neither candidate is bonafide, therefore this election may not result in a voting seat at all.

The Young Republicans at the state level will ultimately decide whether or not to confirm this election at their November meeting.” – said Daniel Goodrich, Chair, Washington County Republican Party.

  1. How many (if any) of these young people who were bussed in had any association with YRs or the TNGOP before this event? How many are even registered to vote? How many will participate in another YR event in the future?

My guess to all of these questions is single digits at best.

This transparently shameless attempt to use an auxiliary organization to control a county party should be a wake up call for the TNGOP that something is very wrong. We need to cultivate productive relationships with the next generations of Americans, but this is the antithesis of that.

If the TN State YRs are going to allow this Democrat strategy of importing voters with no allegiance to that for which they are voting, then the relationship between the TNGOP & the YRs should be reevaluated.
