The Tennessee Conservative [By Paula Gomes] –
A bill that would amend the state’s pronoun law to protect individuals from being forced to use preferred honorifics along with preferred names and pronouns passed in the House Education Committee on Wednesday and has been referred to the Calendar and Rules Committee.

House Bill 1666 (HB1666), sponsored by Representative Aron Maberry (R-Clarksville-District 68), passed in a 12 to 3 vote along party lines. Three Republicans – Representatives Jody Barrett (R-Dickson-District 69), Chris Hurt (R-Halls-District 82), and Mark White (R-Memphis-District 83) – were present but did not vote.

The companion Senate Bill (SB1665) sponsored by Senator Paul Rose (R-Lauderdale/Shelby/Tipton-District 32) passed in the Senate at the beginning of March.
With HB1666 passing the last committee significant to its passage, the next step for the legislation will be to receive a vote on the House floor.
