A teacher in Middle Tennessee was arrested after police discovered cocaine in her classroom.

24-year-old Mia King, a sixth-grade teacher at Cheatham Middle School, was arrested on Monday, January 13, after deputies discovered two baggies of containing about 3 grams of cocaine in her open purse, which was inside a closet near her desk.

They also found a long spoon and a rolled up $5 bill, both of which had a white powder residue on them, inside the purse.

According to Lt. Shannon Heflin of the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Department, police began investigating King after receiving an anonymous tip alleging that King would go to her vehicle and do ketamine and cocaine on her lunch break.

At the time of the search, King was being held by the school resource officer in the principal’s office and showed signs of being under the influence of narcotics, as noted in the deputy’s report.

When informed of the items found in her purse, King reportedly began crying and asked for an attorney. The deputy also reported that a search of her vehicle on campus found no narcotics or contraband.

King, who had been employed as an English teacher at the school since 2023, had no prior issues in her personnel file.

The school district released the following statement:

“The Cheatham County School District has been made aware of the arrest of Mia King, a sixth-grade English teacher at Cheatham Middle School. She had been employed by our district since 2023 but was terminated on Monday, January 13. A review of her personnel file shows no prior issues.
