Recently released court records allege that a Decatur County teacher charged with child rape began abusing the victim five years ago.
47-year-old Allen Maxwell, a physical education teacher at Decaturville Elementary School, was arrested in Parsons on Friday, January 9, on charges of rape of a child.
Court records indicate that the sexual abuse began in January 2021 and continued until November 2022, almost two years. Maxwell is accused of raping a child in his vehicle.
In the state of Tennessee, rape of a child is a sexual offense involving a child between the ages of 8 and 13.
The Decatur County School System released a statement earlier, saying that Maxwell was placed on administrative leave when the district was notified of allegations against him.
Maxwell is jailed on a $250,000 bail.
