Elon Musk’s Boring Company commenced with exploratory drilling in Nashville earlier this month as part of the Music City Loop project.
The company started what they called “geotechnical exploratory borings” in the downtown Nashville area, as well as near Vanderbilt University.

“Drilling took place at First & Broadway and Fourth & Broadway — near the historic Riverfront Park and Tootsie’s in the heart of Nashville’s famous Honky-Tonk Highway,” the company announced on October 1.
Drilling near Vanderbilt began on October 10.
The loop, which is being funded privately, is planned to connect the downtown area and the Convention Center with the Nashville International Airport (BNA). It is anticipated that the new loop will slim transit time down to just eight minutes through a series of underground tunnels that will go under state roads.
Boring says they will need 45 different permits in order to begin the construction phase of the project. They are currently working with engineers to develop the plans, which include users taking Tesla vehicles from above-ground locations through two underground tunnels.
The project is expected to cost between $240 million and $300 million.
