Two former Hamilton County students were arrested after a loaded handgun was found during an incident that took place at the Howard School in Chattanooga.

School resource officers responded to a report of a male and female student, who were not identified, fighting Tuesday at the Howard School of Academics and Technology.

According to the statement from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, “a 9mm Glock 43 pistol fell out of the male student’s waistband” as the two were being pulled away from each other.

The release said that “the weapon had an extended loaded magazine, but no round was in the chamber.”

The male student was arrested on two charges – possession of a weapon on school grounds and disorderly conduct.

The female student was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Both were taken to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center.

According to The Howard School, the two were not students of the school. They were both former students in Hamilton County who were trying to enroll when they came into contact with one another and the altercation began.
