The Tennessee Conservative [By Jason Vaughn] –
Former Tennessee House Speaker Glen Casada announced on Wednesday that he has made the decision not to seek reelection in November 2022.
Casada, a Republican from Franklin, has had a 20-year career as a state representative, serving as Caucus Chairman, Majority Leader, and Speaker of the House during that time.
In a news release, Casada said he arrived at the decision after much consideration.
“This decision comes after much prayer and thought. I am blessed and grateful to have served Williamson County and to have achieved many goals for my constituents, but it is time for a new chapter of public service,” Casada said.
During his tenure, Casada was a sponsor of the landmark amendment to the state constitution that banned personal state income tax, and he has pushed many conservative, pro-life, and pro-business inititatives throughout his career.

Another well-known initiative was a 2019 law that allowed children with special needs to have greater access to life-saving medical treatments and therapies. Casada worked to help secure the funding for the program.
“I strongly feel that Katie Beckett will be Glen’s legacy. The law would not have been possible without his support and leadership,” said Representative Sam Whitson of Franklin.
Casada was first elected to the House in November 2000 and began serving in January 2001. He was part of the move to flip the house to a Republican majority in 2008 for the first time since 1868.
Representative Brandon Ogles of Franklin said, “Glen’s strong conservative voice will be greatly missed. Tennessee is better off today because of Glen’s investment in our state.”
While Casada is known for many of his successes, his twenty year stint has experienced its controversial moments.
After being selected as Speaker of the House in January 2019, Casada resigned in August 2019 after being part of a scandal involving sexist and racist text messages. He was also accused of misconduct.
Federal agents were seen removing boxes from Casada’s Franklin home in January 2021. His office was also raided, along with those of three other House members.
After months of controversy, Casada has decided to remove himself from public office and seek other means of serving his community.
