Governor Lee Names News Agriculture Commissioner As Charlie Hatcher Retires

Tennessee Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Hatcher is retiring after seven years on the job and his deputy commissioner will take his place.

Deputy Commissioner Andy Holt takes over Oct. 1, Gov. Bill Lee said Wednesday.

“Charlie has faithfully served Tennesseans since Day 1 of the Lee administration,” Lee said. “Under his leadership, the Department of Agriculture has made significant investments in our rural communities and safeguarded our food supply.”

Hatcher was the state veterinarian before taking over as commissioner in 2019.

“It has been the honor of my life to work alongside Governor Lee and my fellow commissioners to strengthen rural communities across our state,” Hatcher said. “Together, we have made the largest investments in rural Tennessee’s history, expanded opportunities for young people through FFA, 4H, and education partnerships, and safeguarded farmland for future generations. The Governor’s commitment to addressing farmland loss has been extraordinary, and I am proud to have played a role in carrying forward his vision.”

Holt is a former member of the House of Representatives.

“Andy is a committed public servant who brings a personal understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Tennessee farmers,” Lee said. “I’m grateful for his leadership and am confident he will serve Tennesseans with integrity by strengthening rural communities and supporting our agriculture industry.”
