A Hamilton County teacher was arrested last week on charges of assaulting a student in the school hallway this past August.

According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, 58-year-old William Fryar – a teacher at Harrison Bay Future Ready Center – was arrested on Thursday.

Arrest reports indicate that the incident happened on August 20. The victim was walking down the hall during a fire drill when Fryar allegedly “chest bumped him up against a wall” and asked “what the **** are you doing?”

Another student in the hallway told law enforcement officials that Fryar tried to convince the student to go inside a bathroom to fight so they would not be in view of cameras.

Fryar’s version of the story differs; he stated that the student was walking in front of other students during the drill. Fryar alleges that he grabbed the student by the backpack and moved him towards the wall so he “wouldn’t get trampled.”

The report states, however, that surveillance footage shows that Fryar had actually been following the student prior to the actual incident. It then shows him cutting across a group of students and grabbing the student’s backpack before trying to “aggressively” push him against a wall.

In the video, the student then rushes into a bathroom while Fryar waits for him to come out.

Police were called the day of the incident by the school resource officer. While school administrators did make Fryar leave, no arrest was made at the time.

Fryar is scheduled to appear in court on November 5.
