The Tennessee Conservative Staff –
Both the Tennessee House and Senate Education Committees will consider legislation this week that would expand the categories of those who would not be required to use preferred pronouns in Tennessee’s public schools.
The legislation would add to existing state law to include students in the list of those who are not legally required to use preferred pronouns that do not align with an individual’s biological sex.
Currently, the law only protects “teachers and employees of public schools and LEAs.” The new law would also ensure that no civil liability could be held against anyone opting not to use preferred pronouns.
House Bill 1262 (HB1262), sponsored by State Representative Michele Reneau (R-Signal Mountain-District 27), will be heard by the House Education Committee on March 25.
Senate Bill 1252 (SB1252), sponsored by State Senator Paul Rose (R-Lauderdale/Shelby/Tipton-District 32), will be heard by the Senate Education Committee on March 26.
