The Tennessee Conservative Staff –
Nashville detectives testified on Tuesday that an illegal alien admitted to killing a local business owner in a hit-and-run back in June.
According to testimony from Metro Nashville Homicide Detective Tyler Manivong during a preliminary hearing, 29-year-old Ulises Raigoz-Martinez confessed last month to being the driver of the truck that hit and killed 42-year-old Matt Carney outside of the Smokin Thighs restaurant on June 19.
Carney died from his injuries on July 4.
Police allege that Raigoz-Martinez hit the victim because Carney caught him trying to steal tools from Carney’s truck.
Raigoz-Martinez, along with another illegal alien, had been previously arrested on theft charges for stealing several vehicles and tools back in February but those charges were dropped in March.
Davidson County judge Tim Todd reportedly dismissed the charges against both men, saying there was no probable cause to warrant the men being pulled over and arrested, despite testimony from the investigator and the owner of one of the vehicles the men stole.
Raigoz-Martinez has been charged with criminal homicide, tampering with evidence, vehicle theft, criminal impersonation, and evading arrest.
Reports indicate that ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) has confirmed Raigoz-Martinez is what is called a “got away” who successfully crossed the United States-Mexico border without being detected by Border Patrol agents and subsequently made his way into the country.
Raigoz-Martinez remains in custody at the Nashville Downtown Detention Center. ICE officials have placed a detainer on him, requesting custody if he is released from jail at any time.
