Knox County has launched a new initiative that will combat veteran homelessness by building a tiny home community specifically for those who have served in the military.

“Operation Hero’s Hill” will begin its initial phaser with 20 homes built by students in Knox County Schools’ Career and Technical Education Programs.
Residents will also have use of a community center with computer access and laundry facilities.
According to Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs, the project will help students develop their skills while also serving local veterans.

The initiative was created after county officials took note of the nearly 2,300 people who receive homeless services on a daily basis in Knox County.
Homebuilder D.R. Horton has offered to provide all of the construction materials for the homes.

Mayor Jacobs has also included plans for support in his 2025-2026 budget proposal, including a new healthcare clinic for homeless persons.
The homes are expected to be completed by the end of the school year.
