The Tennessee Conservative Staff –
Chattanooga Police arrested a Hamilton County Schools safety officer on Friday, charging her with domestic assault and criminal impersonation.
Officers reported to a home on VanDyke Street after receiving a call regarding a dispute between 34-year-old Brittani King and her roommate. King had allegedly moved her roommate’s furniture on to the porch of the home.
The police report notes that King showed signs of being intoxicated, including glassy eyes and the smell of alcohol. She was reported to be “obviously annoyed” that police had been called.
During her interaction with police, King repeatedly told them she was a “fellow officer” and told them she was a school resource officer at Lookout Mountain School.
The responding officer left after warning the pair to settle their issues because there was no evidence of a crime having been committed.
Police then received a second call alleging that King had now assaulted the roommate. A neighbor witnessed King walking up behind the roommate and striking her on the head.
When King was asked to complete a witness report, she told officers that she “knew how to write a police report.”
After she was placed in handcuffs, she repeatedly asked officers to move her cuffs and asked if she would be given any special treatment because she was also an officer and “not a thug.” At one point, she was able to get one of her hands out of the handcuffs, and she hit the police car in anger.
Police followed up on her claims of being a school resource officer at Lookout Mountain and found that King is, in fact, a school safety officer. School resource officers are employed by law enforcement agencies, but school safety officers are school district employees and do not have the authority to make arrests.
Hamilton County Schools spokesperson Adison Lambert released a statement saying the district is aware of the situation and will have an alternate school safety officer on campus.
