The Tennessee Conservative [By Kelly M. Jackson] –
With Governor Lee having announced his special session for late August to address the public safety issue after the shooting at Covenant School, additional county GOP’s and County Commissions have issued resolutions against the Governor’s proposal for Red Flag or ERPO legislation.
Wilson County GOP and Loudon County Commission have added their resolutions to the growing number of county and state level organizations that oppose anything that even remotely resembles Red Flag/ERPO laws being proposed for the state of Tennessee.
As reported previously, resolutions from at least 8 counties (Lewis, Jefferson, Claiborne, Williamson, Carter, Grainger, Benton, and Sullivan) expressing their opposition to any laws that would infringe on Tennesseans 2nd Amendment rights have been issued. Stewart County GOP is reported to be working on a resolution as well. They all generally contain the same verbiage, and reference the most recent holdings from the Supreme Court on the issue of 2nd Amendment rights, which is the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. V Bruen.
That holding in its most distilled form, essentially states that a person does not have to pass any kind of test to prove they need access to their Constitutional rights, any of their Constitutional rights, which would include their 2nd Amendment right to bear arms. If a person is required to prove that they aren’t a threat to society because they see a therapist, take a specific type of medication, or have sought any kind of mental health treatment that would be a test that the Constitution, state and federal, say violates Bruen.
Additionally, the lack of a release of the manifesto in the recent shooting, seems to be a sticking point with those in the General Assembly who are reluctant to convene in a special session. If there is going to be a special session based on a premise that we need to keep weapons out of the hands of those who suffer from mental issues, then some idea of what specific issues those are would be beneficial, even necessary information.
There are currently multiple lawsuits filed against the Metro Nashville Police Department, compelling the agency to release the manifesto left behind by shooter, Audrey Elizabeth Hale, 28.
Governor Lee made an announcement back on May 8th, “ After speaking with members of the General Assembly, I am calling for a special session on August 21 to continue our important discussion about solutions to keep Tennessee communities safe and preserve the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens,” said Gov. Lee. “There is broad agreement that action is needed, and in the weeks ahead, we’ll continue to listen to Tennesseans and pursue thoughtful, practical measures that strengthen the safety of Tennesseans, preserve Second Amendment rights, prioritize due process protections, support law enforcement and address mental health.”
The Governor has also invited Tennesseans to submit their feedback here, at this link. We encourage our readers to do just that especially if you oppose the Governor’s proposal to submit some kind of Red Flag legislation during that special session.

Nullification works the same at the state level as it does at the federal level. When our state or local government violates our constitution the people just need to refuse to comply. STOP obeying unconstitutional laws, regulations and agreements. What the Governor really needs to do is hold a special session on how to rebuild the family and stop rewarding men and women for having children out of wedlock. Divorce needs to be more difficult and marriage as well. When the government did not take care of children born out of wedlock women were more accountable and made sure they didn’t get pregnant. Many women get pregnant in order to get free housing, food, medical care etc. This is not malice toward these women it is the truth. We need to rebuild the family. The problem with our kids today is they are left for strangers to raise and they are not bonded to their parents, they feel unwanted, they feel like something is wrong with them, they feel unlovable and the perverts in the world play on that vulnerability. They won’t tell you about the horrors of sex change surgery. It is horrific. And most that go through it deeply regret it and are more mentally ill then when they started out. They were told it was the answer to their unhappiness and when they find out they are more miserable than before they become angry, suicidal and depressed and then the medications for the anger and depression begin which has been proven to make it worse and they strike out. Lets make TN the first state that addresses the planned destruction of the family. Everything that is happening today was planned long ago and it is now coming to fruition. No child should have a cell phone, IPAD or computer as a young child. It is not healthy mentally or physically. And when they get older use should be strictly limited. BE A PARENT instead of finding ways to shove your kids off on others or put them in front of the TV, computer, Cell phone where they create their own reality and generally that doesn’t turn out well. There is no such thing as transgender. These people are mentally ill and I strongly believe it because of the destruction of the family. Most parents today should never have had children because they too are victims of the destruction of the family. WAKE UP and start facing the REAL problem. Taking away gun rights is not the answer that has been proven time and time again. When you fail to address the root cause of any problem is will continue.
Exactly correct, Kendra, exactly correct. The first goal of communism is to destroy the nuclear family, the foundation of all societies. The second goal is to control the education system of any given society in order to indoctrinate future generations into the ways of communism. Once that has been done, as was done decades ago in the U.S. (Lenin, Stalin, and Andropov would be wildly impressed with what they have created in the U.S.) ,the decay is in place and will spread. There is no where you can look today and not see the active decay in our nation. It is a filthy communist mess.
Any “red flag” law violates the Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. A FREE STATE. THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE. SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. It can’t be said more plainly.
Truly, the only thing that would have prevented the tragedy would have been literally more guns…in the possession of staff, teachers, administrators…armed security.
Taking the ability of self defense away from law abiding citizens in this FREE STATE of Tennessee will only create more senseless tragedy.
Even without the release of the manifesto, we already know that other targets were avoided, not engaged because they were more hardened than the school. Only one armed SRO could have been the difference between the school and another less secure target for the perpetrator.
It doesn’t really matter. In the end, the perpetrator was going to do this no matter what or where, cause mayhem…death…destruction. No matter the chosen implement. Had the method been a vehicle, driving through a crowd of people, no one would be calling for the ban of cars, trucks, SUVs…etc….
