A “commonsense child-safety bill” that Governor Bill Lee signed into law earlier this year has been blocked by a Federal judge.

Before the bill became a law which protects minors from entertainment of a sexual nature, Democratic lawmakers took issue with the language it contained, and accused the bill’s sponsor, Representative Chris Todd (R-Madison County-District 73), of making it “overly broad” despite the language having been part of Tennessee code for decades.

U.S. District Judge Thomas Parker, a President Trump appointee, has issued a temporary injunction against the law saying it is too vague and citing possible First Amendment Rights violations.

Friends of George’s, an LGBTQ+ theater company based out of Memphis, is suing Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy and the state. Parker made his decision to block the so-called anti-drag law after hearing from both sides last week.

The law’s aim was never to ban Drag altogether. During the legislative process, Todd had to point out to lawmakers who opposed his bill that the language clearly showed that the intent was to protect children from sexualized entertainment.

Gary Humble of Tennessee Stands said, “Reprieves granted by the court for the cause of liberty, or morality are rare. Courts seem to be generally averse to protecting the constitutional rights of individuals, especially against government encroachment, and even more so to defending any basis of morality on the underpinnings of natural law and the created order.”

The temporary restraining order, just as the law was about to take effect, prohibits Governor Bill Lee, Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti, and D.A. Steven Mulroy from enforcing Tenn. Code Ann. § 7-51-1407.

  1. Just don’t take your kids. If the idiots show up on your block have them arrested for contributing to the delinquency of minors. Police won’t act? Turn on all your sprinklers and hose down the street to clean up the garbage.

  2. One can bet this so-called judge is A democrat who wants to corrupt and destroy children. It is up to the parents first of all if they are a parent to keep children away from this demented TRASH!!
