A Polk County man was arrested on Friday after threatening to kill several local public officials and law enforcement officers.
Police arrested 54-year-old Kevin Wade O’Neal at a home in Old Fort after serving a search warrant for the property.
While searching the home, they saw “something was smoldering” in a bedroom. Upon further investigation, police found what they believed to be an improvised explosive device.
The Chattanooga Police Bomb Squad and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives reported to the scene. They found a total of 14 IEDs.
It is believed that O’Neal attempted to detonate the devices when police arrived.
O’Neal is now facing 11 counts of attempted first-degree murder, 14 counts of prohibited weapons, and one count of possession of explosive components.
The attempted murder charges stem from the responding officers on the scene. No details have been released about the threats made by O’Neal prior to the incident.
Bond has not yet been set for O’Neal, who is being held in the Polk County Jail.
