31-year-old registered sex offender Jerru Wells was taken into custody on Monday after being arrested for breaking into the apartment of a 70-year-old Nashville woman, who awoke with Wells pulling at her nightgown.

After distracting Wells through conversation, the woman eventually convinced him to leave and is now doing fine, reports say.

Special Victims Division detectives were able to identify and apprehend Wells, who is homeless, later that day.

According to the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry, Wells was convicted of sexual assault in 2014 and boasts a hefty list of other offenses including indecent exposure, domestic assault, theft, trespassing, and vandalism dating back to 2011 and continuing to the present.

According to an MNPD press release, he was convicted of sexual battery in Hamblen County in 2015 but he was not registered as a sex offender in Nashville until 2018.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) media release regarding the incident claims Wells is “back behind bars,” and will face two sex offender registry violations in addition to the rape and burglary charges.
