The Tennessee Conservative [By Rebecca Scott] –
Senator Adam Lowe (R-Calhoun-District 1) filed three bills on November 30, 2023 for the 2024 session of the Tennessee General Assembly. The bills pertain to juvenile court time periods, firearm sales, and recall processes.
Senate Bill 1578 (SB1578) pertaining to juvenile court “extends the period of time during which a child who is alleged to be unruly may be detained prior to a detention hearing from no more than 24 hours excluding nonjudicial days or 72 hours total to no more than 72 hours excluding nonjudicial days or 96 hours total. – Amends TCA Title 37.”
In response to this bill, Tennessee Valley Advocates for Freedom called it “unconstitutional” saying that Senator Lowe “wants to extend the period that a child can be held without a hearing for being unruly……. We have the right to a speedy hearing. But he wants to keep children from their parents longer.”
Senate Bill 1579 (SB1579) in summary, “makes persons convicted of felony theft of a firearm permanently ineligible to purchase firearms in this state. – Amends TCA Title 39 and Title 40.”
Finally, Senate Bill 1580 (SB1580) in summary, “creates a recall process for elected non-constitutional public officials. – Amends TCA Title 2 and Title 8.”
In assessing this bill, Tennessee Valley Advocates for Freedom points out that, with the wording specific to non-constitutional public officials, this bill would be directly applied to school boards and the potential recall of school board members.
In a Facebook post, Tennessee Valley Advocates for Freedom explains the application of this bill in the following way: “Imagine this. We manage to get someone good in. They’re angry that we got a good one in. They just have to wait TWO months, and they can get 20% of the people who show up in August (and that’s not many in just one district) and boot that person out.”
As the new year approaches and more bills are filed, the pros, cons, and long-term consequences of potential bills must be considered. In the words of Tennessee Valley Advocates for Freedom, “…….. for something to be law, we have to consider how it could so easily be misused against us too.”

These RHINOS are unbelievable. Worse than Demoncrats. They have an agenda to destroy decent law abiding people. THEY MUST BE STOPPED!
Who/what is Tennessee Valley Advocates for Freedom?
I’m not on FB, not finding them in search or on X.
Dwayne,
They are a Facebook group that TTC shares our articles to daily. It appears they were created primarily in response to mask mandates. Here is the group’s description – “This group is for brainstorming solutions to restore freedom of choice to the TN Valley including North Georgia.
In this group, we will post calls to action so please be ready to do what is needed. Feel free to invite friends who are serious about preserving choice. We know that m_sk man dates were the first step in a slippery slope for others. Be involved in the turn of the tide.”
Finally someone with a Backbone!
The TVAF have a strong point. Adam Lowe is known (should be well known) for not thinking through his legislative attempts. He is a RINO and appears to either have little knowledge of the US Constitution, or like most RINOS, doesn’t care.
I’m concerned about the definition of “unruly”. I don’t think being “unruly” is a crime subject to a mandatory minimum penalty.
The 2nd Amendment: The SCOTUS just recently ruled that the government cannot prevent a “non-violent” citizen from owning a firearm. Thieves are vermin, but the 2A is the law of the land. Even vermin have the right to defend themselves.
Consider the foolhardy attempt by Jon Lundberg to outlaw Hoodies. That could have lead to outlawing headwear of any kind.
Hurry back, President Trump. The Democraps need their butts kicked and Republicans need a brain.
