The Tennessee Conservative Staff –
A substitute teacher in Sequatchie County Schools is now facing charges of child abuse after an investigation by the school system found that he assaulted a student on an elementary school campus.
Thomas Lloyd Aldean of Crossville had been employed by the district for less than a week when he was accused of assaulting a student at Griffith Elementary School. Upon receiving reports of the incident, school administrators immediately removed Aldean from the campus and launched an investigation.
Court documents show that the incident took place on April 26. A grand jury has indicted Aldean on charges of abuse of a child under the age of 8 years old.
Sequatchie County Sheriff Bill Phillips told the Times Free Press that the incident did involve physical contact, but “it was not sexual.”
No further details have been released about the incident.
Sarai Pierce, Director of Schools for Sequatchie County, released a statement regarding the incident:
“On May 3rd, school system officials were made aware of allegations that a substitute teacher, Thomas Aldean, had assaulted a student on the campus of Griffith Elementary. The school system immediately removed the substitute teacher from campus and conducted an investigation. The investigation revealed that the substitute had acted inappropriately toward a student, and the substitute was immediately terminated. He had worked as a sub for less than one week. The school system followed protocol and reported to both DCS and the Sheriff’s Department. As there is an open criminal investigation, we have no further comment at this time.”
