Manufacturers of certain pesticide products favor legislation that would limit their liability in tort cases involving injury to consumers and others. Many people, and organizations, including Stand for Health Freedom see this issue as a health concern, especially with widespread use of chemicals to kill wheat before harvest and to control weeds and insects.

The fear is that such chemicals will enter the food supply and cause injury. Chemical manufacturers are seeking immunity from liability if injuries occur. The industry is running similar bills in many states to protect themselves from liability, including Tennessee.

Some manufacturers are running consumer ads to gain public support for their legislation.

Senate Bill 527 / House Bill 809 is one such bill that is currently under consideration by the Tennessee General Assembly.

Bernadette Pajer is the Tennessee Director of Stand for Health Freedom, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting informed consent, parental rights, religious freedom, freedom of speech, and privacy. Her organization strongly opposes SB527/HB809.

In a media release published Saturday March 22, 2025, Stand for Health Freedom stated as follows. “SHF contends that states and the federal government should be helping farmers move away from chemical farming and transition to regenerative, organic methods, aligning with President Trump’s March 6 pledge during his Joint Address to Congress: Our goal is to get toxins out of our environment, poisons out of our food supply, and keep our children healthy and strong.” – said Bernadette Pajer
