The Sullivan County Commission voted last week to approve two resolutions that would allow the county to receive over $200,000 in grant money to aid with immigration enforcement.

The first resolution would allow them to accept $145,000 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in exchange for the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office agreeing to participate in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) 287(g) program.

The resolution detailed plans to use the funding to purchase equipment for six officers working with immigration enforcement as well as an upfitted Ford F-150 to be used in this work.

The second resolution would give the county access to around $70,000 from the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security.

This money would be used to cover expenses related to immigration enforcement including additional police equipment, supplies, and capital purchases.

Both resolutions received unanimous approval after being placed on the consent agenda.
