A Tennessee District Attorney has resigned after accusations of his involvement in a shooting incident during the arrest of three homicide suspects.
District Attorney General Chris Stanford sent a letter through his attorney to Governor Bill Lee, stating that he was resigning his position and that his last day in office would be October 31.
“It has been an honor to serve his constituents alongside the dedicated and diligent staff of his office, and he is proud of the work his team has accomplished together,” the letter reads.
A DeKalb County Grand Jury indicted Stanford in the shooting which took place in 2024 as three suspects were being arrested for their alleged involvement in a triple murder in Warren County.
Stanford was charged with reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm into an occupied habitation.
According to DeKalb County Sheriff Patrick Ray, police were attempting to arrest Caleb Dias Brookins and Jessica Root, who were wanted by Warren County police in relation to the triple murder. Hannah McKenzi Rose was also charged with evading arrest and aggravated assault on a first responder.
Stanford is accused of shooting at a getaway vehicle as the suspects attempted to evade arrest. No one was hit in the incident.
Earlier in 2024, Stanford had been instrumental in the arrest of nearly 50 individuals in Warren County for a number of drug charges.
