An illegal alien is wanted by police after being involved in an October 5 hit-and-run that left a young girl dead in Nashville.

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) issued a warrant for the arrest of 39-year-old Walter Daneris Zuniga after confirming his identity.

Zuniga is a native of Honduras and was allegedly in the country illegally. He is accused of driving the red Nissan Sentra that hit 10-year-old Emily Sanchez-Ramirez as she was riding her electric scooter in a bicycle lane on Nolensville Pike.

Emily was a fifth grade student at Tusculum Elementary.

28-year-old Laura Ramirez-Gonzalez, Emily’s mother, was also critically injured in the incident.

MNPD put out nine warrants against Zuniga:

• Vehicular homicide by reckless conduct

• Reckless endangerment

• Leaving the scene of a crash involving death

• Evidence tampering

A tip through Crime Stoppers led police to find the damaged vehicle suspected of being involved in the accident at Zuniga’s house on Radnor Street this past Monday.

Zuniga’s nephew, who also lived at the Radnor Street residence, told police that he helped the suspect leave the country.

29-year-old Orlin Argueta-Zuniga says the suspect hid the car at the home. He gave his nephew a check for an undisclosed amount of money and then had him drive him to Atlanta. There, the check was cashed, and the money was used to buy a bus ticket to Texas.

According to Argueta-Zuniga, the suspect planned to cross the border into Mexico and then make his way to Honduras.
