Tennessee Conservative News Staff –
Tennessee’s population continued to increase faster than the national average last year, signaling continued growth for the state even as population increases across the country slowed.

According to new U.S. Census estimates, the state’s population rose to more than 7.3 million. That amounts to an increase of 63,785 residents, or 0.9% growth. By comparison, the national population grew by just 0.5% during the same period.
According to Census assistant division chief Christine Hartley, the nationwide decline is partly due to a “historic drop in net international migration.” The number of immigrants fell from 2.7 million to 1.3 million.
Growth across the South, which has historically been a high-growth area within the country, fell slightly, coming in below 1% for the first time in five years.

The newly released data places Tennessee among the top 10 states in both raw population gains and overall growth rate.
The continued influx of new residents is particularly important for Tennessee as state leaders look to expand the workforce and support long-term economic growth.
