The Boring Company has released a new map that shows the planned route for the Music City Loop through Nashville.

The company, owned by Elon Musk, announced in a blog post that construction of their planned Tesla tunnel may begin as early as January, even though opponents have raised a number of safety concerns.

“It is difficult to estimate exactly when tunneling will begin, with a best guess being in January,” the post stated.

As they prep for the initial steps, TBC says they are also considering possible expansions on the current plan.

They also celebrated various “milestones” in the project, such as the “first spin” of their Prufrock-MB1, also referred to as the “first Tunnel Boring Machine in Nashville.” The machine will be used to tunnel through the limestone underneath the city.

According to TBC, they have received approval on 27 of the 45 permits filed with the city, while another 10 remain in review. The final 8 approvals are related to the development of tunnel launch sites in conjunction with their “Broadway and Airport alignments.”

According to the blog post, “TBC recently announced the planned Broadway expansion. The proposed alignment would extend southwest from Lower Broadway, continue along West End Avenue past Centennial Park and Vanderbilt, and terminate near 440, continues to evaluate additional expansion opportunities, identifying routes most useful to the Nashville community.”

The company also says that the tunnel has passed an “Independent Environmental Impact Assessment” but did not provide a copy of those results. This follows a recent fine of hundreds of thousands in Nevada for allegedly dumping toxic chemicals during a similar construction project there.

They have worked to reassure residents that the safety of the Music City Loop is a priority, noting that they are working with city and state officials to create emergency preparedness plans.
