4 Apply For Tennessee Circuit Court Vacancy In Nashville

The circuit court vacancy in Tennessee’s 20th Judicial District has gathered 4 applicants for the position. 

After the death of Judge Philip E. Smith on September 4th, the vacancy was created.

Applicants include Nashville attorneys Tusca R.S. Alexis, Audrey Lee Anderson, and Stanley A. Kweller; as well as special master to the 4th Circuit Court in Nashville Stephanie J. Williams. 

Tusca Alexis is a lawyer serving Nashville in Criminal Law. Alexis has over 30 years of experience in Dispute Resolution, Immigration, Family Law, Criminal, and General Practice.

Audrey Anderson focuses her practice on representing colleges and universities. She has over 30 years of experience in practice. Her practice involves advising institutions on matters related to Title IX and other investigations.

Stanley Kweller has been practicing law since graduating from the University of Tennessee Law School in 1977. A majority of his work is related to Domestic Relations.

Stephanie Williams has been practicing law since 2004 when she was awarded the position of special master to the 4th Circuit Court by the late Philip E. Smith.

A public hearing will be held by the Trial Court Vacancy Commission on October 18 to interview the candidates, according to the Supreme Court. The hearing will be open to members of the public to allow for the expression of any objections to the applicants. 

The Trial Court Vacancy Commission operates under the authority of TCA § 17-4-301.  When there is a vacancy to be filled in the trial courts, the Commission will accept applications from qualified attorneys, interview the applicants and then recommend three candidates to the governor for consideration.

• Harold L. “Hal” North, Jr., Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel, P.C. Liberty Tower- Chattanooga, TN

• Brandon Pelizzari, Assistant District Attorney General (8th JD) – Jacksboro, TN

• David W. Purkey, TN Commissioner of Safety & Homeland Security {RTD} – Morristown, TN

• Alexander O. Waters, Long, Ragsdale & Waters, P.C. – Knoxville, TN

• Kesha Waters, CASA of the Tennessee Heartland – Knoxville, TN

Following the interviews, three names will be forwarded to Governor Bill Lee for his consideration.
