The Tennessee Conservative Staff –
Tennessee was recently ranked as one of the least safe states in the nation for high school students.
A study done by Scholaroo, a scholarship search platform, measured the safety of high school students in each state. The measurement was based on multiple crime and safety indicators, such as the percentage of students that have carried a weapon onto school property.
Weights were given to each metric and those weights were then used to come up with the weighted averages and overall scores of each state. A primary factor in Tennessee’s low ranking was the number of incidents involving gunfire on school grounds within the last 10 years.
According to the study, Tennessee comes in at number 44 on the list of worst states for school shootings. In the last 10 years, only Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, California, Georgia and Texas reported more school shootings.
High school students in Tennessee were also reported to have a higher exposure to illegal drugs than most states, according to the percentage of students that were offered, sold or given an illegal substance while on school grounds.
Tennessee was actually ranked among the 10 worst states for exposure to illegal drugs.
Tennessee is also ranked 34th in the nation for cases of bullying in high schools and 41st for cyberbullying.
The state fell in the average range when it came to the percentage of students who say they feel safe while they are at school, with a 29th place rating.
The study did rank Tennessee among the top 15 states with regulations related to school resource officers and the requirements for those officers.
Additionally, while there was a high number of incidences of gunfire reported, not as many Tennessee students reported that they had been threatened with a weapon or engaged in a physical fight on school property.
With Georgia being the worst for overall high school safety, Tennessee was not far behind, coming in at number 44. Following closely behind Georgia were Louisiana, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Washington came in at number one when it comes to safest states for high school students, followed by Delaware and Kentucky.

Must of been a Democrat did this study and threw in California for good measure!!
This is yet another BS study. I worked in California high schools, they were NOT safe. We were locked down several times because of “criminal activity” and once because of an active shooting a few blocks away. The problems generally were drugs, illegals and gangs from their “diverse” populations. If Tennessee is now truly facing those problems, look to all the blue staters moving here as well as the illegal and “refugee” invaders.
That’s not what this study says. TN is not even in the top 10 by incidents or per capita since 1970.

However, you can see how the math is beguiling.
TN’s 6.9 million people with 76 incidents might rank close to CA’s 39.5 million with 232 incidents, TX 29.1 million with 192 incidents or FL’s 21.5 million with 132 incidents, but TN 76 is around 1/2 to 1/3 of the others.
How did we manage ranking so high in this feat of statistics?
Likely, because there more big cities in CA, TX and FL than TN and that is where the shootings occur, but their corresponding larger populations divide them out more than TN’s significanty lower, more rural population, who actually don’t shoot each other quite so often.
Otherwise, I’d say let’s go get ’em, Boys!
We must be the meanest 6.9 million hombres East of the Mississippi and we’re just wasting our time with studies and and other, variegated jaw flappin’.
Why, another dozen or incidents and then we’ll beat CA and march on WDC!
Hells Bells!
