Metro Nashville Police made an arrest in the case of a woman who was shot to death while walking on the Mill Creek Greenway in Antioch less than 24 hours after her death, but sources say the District Attorney has no plans to seek the death penalty in the case.

29-year-old Paul Park of Brentwood was arrested on Tuesday for the Monday evening shooting of 34-year-old Alyssa Lokits. She had been found at around 5:30 pm with a gunshot to her head. She was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she later died.

According to investigators, Park stepped from between two parked vehicles and began following Lokits as she was walking.

Some witnesses later stated that they heard her screaming, “Help! He’s trying to rape me!” while others told police that they saw a male who was possibly Asian on top of her before shots were fired.

Park was seen on both surveillance cameras and a witness’s dashcam video, helping police to identify him and his vehicle.

Park was arrested and charged with first degree murder. Sources say he is currently being held on a suicide prevention watch in the medical wing of the Davidson County Jail.

It is also reported that Davidson County District Attorney Glenn Funk’s office is not planning to seek the death penalty. Park could, however, face life in prison without parole.
