10 Hamilton County Schools now report a majority Hispanic population as the school district experiences an increase in the number of Hispanic students enrolled, while the number of black and white students has gone down.
The system currently reports a total enrollment of 46, 038 students. Of that total, 20,780 students are white; 13,103 students are black; and 10,082 students are Hispanic. There are also 537 American Indian students, 1,380 Asian students, and 156 Hawaiian/Pacific Islanders.
In 2022, the district only reported 8,680 Hispanic students.
Reports show that Hamilton County has 6,390 of their total student population who are classified as “English Language Learners.” These are described as “students who are not yet able to communicate fluently or learn effectively in English.”
The Howard School, one of the largest in the district with 1480 students, is one of the schools that now has a majority Hispanic population.
Since its founding in 1865, Howard has historically been a predominantly black school. Now, however, reports show the school to have 981 Hispanic students and only 476 black students. Additionally, there are 20 white students, two American Indian students, and one Asian student.

Thanx to lucifer’s dimmercraps.
Does this mean that 6,390 students can’t speak English and must have a translator?
Who pays for that?
Does the translation distract the other students or slow up learning?
Are the Chattanooga taxpayers in favor of this?
