The Tennessee Conservative Staff –
A Memphis teacher has been arrested and charged with attempted statutory rape.
According to Memphis police, they received a criminal complaint against 24-year-old Donald Fitzgerald on February 14.
Records show that a mother filed a report after discovering messages of a “sexual nature” on her daughter’s phone between the child and her teacher.
The police affidavit says that the 17-year-old student told investigators that Fitzgerald attempted to solicit her for sex through text messages.
Memphis police stated that Fitzgerald admitted that he did solicit the girl, who is a student where he was employed, for sex. He told police that he deleted the text messages between them and also instructed the girl to delete them so “they would not be discovered.”
The affidavit did not list Fitzgerald’s place of employment, however, the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association lists him as an assistant coach for boys’ basketball at the Memphis School of Excellence.
Fitzgerald was charged with attempted statutory rape by an authority figure and tampering with evidence. He has since posted a $15,000 bond.
