On Tuesday, Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs put out a statement announcing that he is taking on the role of campaign treasurer for U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn’s (R-TN) gubernatorial run.

This means he will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities of Blackburn’s campaign, making sure contributions remain in compliance with campaign financial disclosure laws.

While Jacobs was initially rumored to be planning his own bid for governor, the Knox County mayor has been a long-time supporter of Blackburn and previously stated that if she were to run he would endorse her.

He gave Blackburn his full endorsement last Wednesday once her campaign had been announced.

“Since the moment I found out Marsha was considering running, I have backed her 100%,” Jacobs told Channel 6 News. “Tennessee’s thriving economy and business environment are in large part due to Marsha’s leadership in fighting the proposed state in income tax in the early 2000s. She is exactly who Tennessee needs in the driver’s seat, and I’m honored to be her campaign treasurer. I will do whatever it takes to ensure she is elected.”

There is additional speculation that if she becomes governor, Blackburn may “tap” Jacobs for the open U.S. Senate seat.

Blackburn’s current term as a U.S. senator does not end until 2031.

Tennessee state law dictates that a Senate vacancy in this instance would be filled during the next regular November election.

However, the governor can appoint a successor until that special election can be held if the vacancy will “deprive the state of its full representation at any time congress may be in session.”

    1. Hey Debutant, you’re thinking of the City of Knoxville’s mayor, Indya Kincannon, who is certainly a liberal Democrat.

  1. Ms. Blackburn is still saying the CV-19 shot’s are “safe and effective.” She promised to stop America’s pharmaceuticals from being manufactured in China, but did not follow through. How can the people of Tennessee, after all the death and injuries from the shot, vote for someone so out of touch or compromised by Big Pharma. We need to follow the money.
