A former Knoxville teacher is facing an additional charge of sexual battery after the discovery of another victim.
Chad Brooks, who was previously employed as a teacher and coach at West High School, was already facing charges of statutory rape but has now also been charged with sexual battery by an authority figure.
This newest charge was issued by a Knox County grand jury on September 24 after the Knoxville Police Department’s Special Crimes Unit continued their investigation. He was arrested on September 26 and booked with a $75,000 bond.
In May, Brooks was indicted on 16 counts of aggravated statutory rape and statutory rape by an authority figure related to incidents involving a first victim. Those incidents allegedly occurred between January 2024 and March 2025.
Court documents show that Brooks was instructed to leave all school-issued equipment in his classroom following the initial allegations. However, he allegedly asked another school employee to remove items for him, including a school-issued laptop.
Brooks was initially placed on administrative leave, pending an investigation into the allegations, but Knox County Schools later announced it would not renew his contract for the 2025–2026 school year.
In an unrelated case, another former West High School assistant coach was arrested in May and charged with four counts of sexual battery by an authority figure.
Richard Shaver was charged in Sevier County based on allegations of illicit contact with a student.
No trial dates have yet been announced for Brooks or Shaver. Both remain under legal scrutiny as investigations continue.
