An illegal alien has been arrested and charged in conjunction with a hit-and-run accident that happened over a month ago in Nashville.
According to Metro Nashville police, 47-year-old Felipe Alvarado-Hernandez was arrested on Wednesday for the accident that occurred on June 13 at the corner of Demonbreun Street and Music Circle East.
Reports indicate that four individuals, including two who were in wheelchairs, were waiting to cross the street when Alvarado-Hernandez cut a left turn short in his GMC Sierra truck, driving onto the sidewalk and hitting the pedestrians.
All four were injured, with one still undergoing treatment at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Burn Unit.
Investigators used private license plate reader technology to determine that the truck belonged to Alvarado-Hernandez, and it was recovered at his Antioch home. Police say he admitted to driving the truck on the morning of the accident.
Alvarado-Hernandez is charged with 21 crimes including reckless endangerment, driving on a revoked license (2nd offense), leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury, failure to render aid, failure to provide financial responsibility, and failure to report an accident with injury.
He was booked into the Metro Nashville jail on a $140,000 total bond.
Records show that Alvarado-Hernandez is currently being held on an immigrant detainer. He will remain in custody until he is turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. An ICE hold most likely means that he is in this country illegally.
