Tennessee School Board Member Who Called Student “Hot” Loses Bid Re-Election Bid, Pleads Not Guilty To Assault

A Washington County school board member who has been under fire for saying “God, you’re hot” to a student during a school board meeting lost his bid for re-election. 

Keith Ervin was seeking to be re-elected to his seat on the school board as a Republican representing District 1. 

Ervin was charged with assault in May, after making the comment during the public meeting on April 1. He was schedule to appear in court Friday, just one day after losing that re-election bid. Through his lawyer, he pleaded not guilty to the assault charge and is set to be back in court on November 2.

Ervin ran against candidates Annette Buchanan and Vince Walters in the Republican primary, losing after receiving only 17.01% of the votes, according to election results last Thursday night. 

According to unofficial results, Walters came out on top with 26.51% of the vote, beating Buchanan by less than 1%. Buchanan came in with 26.25% of the votes. Walters will face Democrat Mary Grace Wooten in the November election.
