Three illegal aliens from Guatemala were taken into custody on August 4 in Knoxville by ICE officers from New Orleans as a result of an identity theft investigation.
Magdalena Gomez-Garcia, Elias Gomez-Garcia, and Eulalia Ordonez-Carmelo were arrested after officials found out that there were already previous orders for them to be removed from the United States.
According to investigators, Magdalena Gomez-Garcia stole the identity of a woman living in New York and used the information to obtain employment in Knoxville back in February. The income earned by Gomez-Garcia were reported using the victim’s details, leading to the victim contacting officials about the discrepancies on her record.
“These crimes have real victims,” said ICE New Orleans acting Field Office Director Scott Ladwig. “Fraudulent documents and stolen identities can cause lasting harm to victims, workers and businesses.”
This is not the first run in with the law for any of the three individuals.
Magdalena Gomez-Garcia was first found by Border Patrol agents near San Luis, Arizona, on July 10, 2018. A judge ordered her to be removed from the country in 2019.
Eliza Gomez-Garcia was removed from the country in 2009. He then had to be removed again in 2011 and 2018. He also has a criminal record for traffic violations in both Kentucky and South Carolina.
Ordonez-Carmelo entered the country illegally and was first found near Rio Grande Valley in 2022. She was initially released after being taken into custody but then removal was ordered by a judge in 2023.
Additional charges may come as the investigation continues.
