Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has signed legislation that will strike fear in the “peaceful” rioters across the state.
During the recent three-day special legislative session, the Republican-dominant General Assembly passed a sweeping crime bill and sent it directly to Governor Lee’s desk for signature.
The new law requires mandatory 45-day sentences for aggravated rioting, along with increased fines for blocking highways. Aggravated assault against a first responder is now a felony, with camping on state property also increased from misdemeanor to felony.
“I think what we saw was a courthouse on fire and businesses being broken into and vehicles being damaged. We saw lawlessness that needed to be addressed immediately,” Lee told reporters on Thursday.
The strong Tennessee stance behind law and order comes amidst violent riots breaking out across America with Antifa threatening to enter suburban neighborhoods next.
Republicans in Tennessee sent a strong message to the radical left, which seems to be the entirety of the Democrat party. The message is that if you violently riot in Tennessee, you are going to jail and your right to vote is no longer. If you attack our beloved law enforcement officers, you no longer have the right to vote in this country.
Not only do the citizens not want anarchy on the streets and highways, emergency responders do need absolute freedom of travel to save lives. The legislation addresses the issue of rioters blocking travel of emergency vehicles with increased fines.
Naturally, left-wing groups ran by socialist radicals are attacking the Tennessee Governor and the Republicans that progressed the legislation.
“We are very disappointed in Governor Lee’s decision to sign this bill, which chills free speech, undermines criminal justice reform and fails to address the very issues of racial justice and police violence raised by the protesters who are being targeted,” ACLU of Tennessee Executive Director Hedy Weinberg said in a statement. “While the governor often speaks about sentencing reform, this bill contradicts those words and wastes valuable taxpayer funds to severely criminalize dissent.”
What the ACLU really wants is an absolute disregard for law and order, as to allow the destruction of our institutions and way of life. The ACLU turns a blind eye to violence, and picks apart Republicans for protecting law-abiding citizens.
If future protests are truly peaceful, the weight of the law will not come down on the protestor’s shoulders. However, this is clearly not what we have seen out of recent protest conduct. The contents of the new crime legislation may deter future considerations of setting courthouses ablaze, which happened in a Nashville riot back in May.
The left-wing media and radical nonprofit groups will jump to call the new Tennessee crime an affront to free-speech, liberty, and freedom itself. The real threat to freedom is allowing violent vigilantes to attack police and destroy federal buildings. It’s time to strike fear in those that mean to do harm and finally regain order.
