Authorities say a Nashville man was recently charged with sex crimes against children after he used social media to solicit minors. They issued a warning to parents about their children’s use of social media.
In this particular instance, both Snapchat and Kik were used, but police say these are just two of the many social media apps used by predators.
Scott Augenbaum, retired FBI agent and author, told WSMV that parents have to educate themselves first on various types of social media that kids frequent.
“Do you know what your kids are doing online?” Augenbaum asked.
He said communicating with their children is the next thing parents should be doing because kids are intelligent when it comes to technology. Even the best monitoring and blocking programs are not foolproof.
“We are all looking for a technical solution for a parenting issue. If you go out and buy all these different types of software the kids are going to figure out a way to get around it,” said Augenbaum. “It doesn’t have to happen. Educate. Take the steps and realize the threat is real.”
Augenbaum suggested that parents check out the resources on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Kids website for keeping up with social media trends.

What about the predatory teachers? Someone going to arrest them? I have heard teachers directing kids to go on “hook up sites” where these predators flourish. Who will arrest the teachers indoctrinating kids with sexual depravity? As far as I can see, teachers who know they have “tenure” do as they please knowing they can’t get fired.

The book informs readers that after they “upload a tiny pic of [themselves] to the app,” the app “works out your location” and “tells you who the nearest homosexuals are.” From there, users can “chat to them,” with the book stressing that “because they are near, it’s easy to meet up with them.”
Wake up people, school teachers are encouraging this.

Lastly, both Mississippi and Utah passed bills that do not allow anyone under the age of 18 to access internet porn. Right now, in TN any child, any age can access this! We must ask our legislators to introduce and pass such a bill!
