The Tennessee Conservative [By Adelia Kirchner] –
A bill requiring residential schools in Tennessee to segregate multi-occupancy restrooms, changing areas, and showers according to “immutable biological sex” is scheduled for consideration by the full House Education Committee this Tuesday.
The legislation passed by a 5-1 vote in the House Education Administration Subcommittee earlier this month.
House Bill 64 (HB0064) is being sponsored by Rep. Gino Bulso (R-Brentwood-District 61) and would apply to residential elementary, middle, and secondary schools, as well as private schools and postsecondary or higher education institutions that allow minors to access the relevant facilities.
Rep. Bulso filed this bill after some of his constituents shared that undisclosed by the school, their minor daughter had ended up sharing restroom and showering facilities with transgender students, boys who identified as girls, when she attended a month-long summer program at a private university in Nashville.
HB0064 is currently scheduled for consideration during the 12pm (CST) meeting of the House Education Committee on Tuesday, Feb. 25th, 2025.
