The Tennessee Conservative [By David Seal] –
If U.S. Representative Tim Burchett (R-Tennessee) gets his way with proposed legislation, the terrorist thugs outside the borders of our nation may get a dose of their own nasty medicine.
Burchett’s legislation, if enacted, would issue a Letter of Marque and Reprisal authorizing the President of the United States to hire private contractors to use any means reasonably necessary to seize people and property responsible for acts of aggression against the United States.
The focus will be drug cartels operating outside our borders.
During the Biden Administration, the international criminal cartels had nearly free reign to transport drugs and engage in human trafficking which led to hundreds of thousands of drug overdose deaths of American citizens and unimaginable levels of misery.
In a February 13, 2025, Media Release the 2nd District congressman stated as follows,
“They push millions of dollars in fentanyl into our country with no regard for American lives. It’s time to get creative about how we face these threats. These cartels present a serious risk to our national security, and this bill would authorize President Trump to commission Americans to help defend our homeland.” – said Representative Tim Burchett
The release stated, “Under Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution, Congress has the authority to “declare war, grant letters of marque and reprisal, and make rules concerning captures on land and water.”
Burchett, known for his bold and creative approach to government, included a statement from his co-sponsor Representative Mark Messmer (R-Indiana), “I agree with President Trump that drug cartels are foreign terrorist organizations and are a serious threat to all Americans.”
